AUGUST 2022

We just held our Fall Meeting and I hate to tell you this, but the Officers for the Red River Valley Senior Men’s Golf Association did not change for Golf Season 2023.  We only had about 40 members attend the Fall Meeting after the Hawley Event on Thursday, August 4, 2022, so no one can complain about the results.  The Hawley Golf Course under the management of Teri, served burgers, beans, chips and brownies for the meal we had prior to the meeting.  As usual, Teri and her crew do a wonderful job of taking care of us.

One major change was voted on and approved by the members who attended.  A motion was made and seconded that we only penalize the golfers One (1) stroke for a lost ball and for a ball that is hit OB.  The consensus was that most golfers do not follow the 2-stroke penalty rule, so why should the ones that do get penalized.  It passed without one dissenting vote.  So going forward if you hit a ball OB or lose a ball, you only need to add one stroke to your score.

Membership Dues:  2023 Membership dues of $30 need to be paid prior to September 15, 2022, or they will increase to $40.  This rule was implemented so the Membership Manager, Dick Anderson, has an idea of how many openings we will have for the upcoming season.  He does not need to be running down and begging for Membership payments, so please pay your dues prior to September 15 if you plan on continuing your membership with this Association.

Scorecards:  I hate to keep beating a dead horse but there have been some questions on the DNF I recorded for some of the golfers.  I do not want to do this but because the scorecards are not finished properly, instead of me spending an hour plus to call to get the correct Tee Box, I now use the DNF for the cards that are not completed properly.  When you have a DNF on your record, you are still given credit for an event played, which go towards the required 5 rounds needed to keep your membership.

Ryder Cup Event:  This event against the Southeast Golf Group has not been published yet but will soon be out there for signing up.  We need 12 golfers to DEFEND the title we took last year.  This event is a two-day, 3 round event.  Saturday, we play 2 Rounds, one a Two-man Best Ball and the other is a two-man Scramble.  Sunday, we play twelve individual rounds, with all the events, we will use handicap.  It is a fun outing.  We will be playing the event at Wahpeton again this year.  I am not too sure on cost, but it will be very reasonable for 3 rounds of golf.

I guess I will also add that it is getting late in the Golf Season and if you haven’t got your required 5 events in, make sure you get those done as soon as you can, so you are not scrambling at the end of the season to get them done.  It always happens that we have golfers scrambling to get 5 rounds in and if you wait until the end, an event you signed up for could be canceled and you may not have the opportunity to make that event up.  This is only directed at the golfers that want to continue their membership in our Association.

This has been another great golf season with this Association, and I hope we can continue to maintain it.  If you have any questions or concerns, please contact one of us and we will try to answer your questions in a timely manner.
