MAY 2023

Tomorrow is the 3rd Event of the new Golf Season.  The 1st two events were a success as far as I am concerned, but with the weather warming up, I am hoping for better participation in our upcoming events.  The courses have raised some of the rates, but we are still getting a very good rate for playing on the various courses.  I hope we can fill up all our events, especially the courses that have only a 9-hole layout.  I think a lot of those 9-hole courses are the ones I enjoy playing the most, especially the ones that serve a meal after the end of playing. (Yes, I enjoy eating, especially good food.)

I am sending out the same information I sent in last month’s letter.  Please read and if you have any questions, ask one of the Board members.

The USGA assigns all golfers an INDEX to help figure out the proper Handicap for the Golf Course they are playing.  We will post under Members Options/Communication on our Web Site, ALL MEMBER HANDICAPS FOR THE GOLF COURSE THAT YOU ARE PLAYING AS SOON AS THE EVENT IS TAKEN DOWN FROM THE SIGNUP BOOK AREA. We also will have that List of Handicaps at the Golf Course available for you to look up.   We will be entering all scores from every hole played, but we still need you to total your scores.  By using the YOUR INDEX AND THE COURSE SLOPE AND RATING, everyone’s Handicap will be true for the course you are playing.  You will probably have a different handicap at every course, depending on the course’s slope and rating.  This applies to everyone, not just you. WE EXPECT TO UPDATE ALL MEMBER INDEX’S EVERY OTHER FRIDAY. IF YOU LOOK UNDER MEMBERS OPTIONS/ARCHIVE/PAST NEWSLETTERS/CHANGES-CHANGES-CHANGES YOU WILL READ ALL ABOUT THE NEW CHANGES IN OUR SCORECARDS AND HANDICAP OPERATION.

We moved our Spring Meeting to June 15 because of some of the delays with the start of the season and to make sure we had the New System running properly.  We will hold the meeting at Hawley after we play golf that day.  Please consider staying for the meeting, especially if you have any questions or concerns you would like to address.

Let’s make sure we are following good golf etiquette and the course rules when we play.  We do allow rolling your ball throughout the whole course including the rough, but with your club not hand.  We have heard that some of the seasoned golfers have been seen moving the ball away from trees so they can get a clear shot.  That is not allowed and if you see that please address that with them or let us know so we can address it with them.  We are not the PGA, but we do expect our rules to be followed.  Also, NO GIMMIES of putts.

I am looking forward to another great season with all the members of our Golf Association.  Please contact me is you have any questions or concerns and hopefully I can give you an answer that satisfies you.
