OCTOBER 2023

Here we are coming to the end of another Great Golf Season.  It is hard to believe that we only have one more event left, but as I grow older, the time just flies by.  Soon a lot of our members will be headed south for the winter, and they will continue to play golf, while the rest of us will be stuck up here waiting for the snow to leave and praying for an early melt so we can get back on the courses.

We just finished playing Oxbow this past Monday.  What a beautiful course that is but it sure is it tough.  I am not too sure why it took so long to play other than it looks like there were a lot of strokes out there.  I know there were some complaints out there because of the slow play but I am not too sure what we can do to improve that situation.  I guess we just need to follow good golf etiquette and do the best you can to keep up with the group in front of you.  We do ask our golfers to play Ready Golf and make sure we finish all our putts, without marking every time you putt, just finish but NO GIMMES.  One of my favorite sayings is “If you joined this Association to play a fast round of golf, you joined the wrong Association.”

Your 2024 Membership dues were due by September 15th, or we will add $10 to the dues.  Some of our members questioned why we add the extra charge.  The reason we added the extra charge was to make our members get their Dues in early so we have an idea how many members we will lose and then must add to our Membership Roll.  Our Membership person does not have the time to call everyone and remind them that they need to pay their dues, or they will be dropped from the Association.  We don’t want to lose any of our members because of non-payment of their dues but we also don’t want to have to remind everyone prior to the end of the season.

I know that Reino has already working on the schedule for 2024.  There may be some changes to the courses we play next year, as some of the courses are asking for some very high Green/Cart Fees.  We struggle to fill a lot of the 9 Hole courses.  The courses that only have 9 holes are the following and some of these are favorites of mine.  Casselton, Leonard, Mayville, Ada, Hillsboro and Fertile are all fun to play and I wish we would see more players sign up for these courses, so we can keep them on the schedule.  I personally think the Fertile is one of the toughest courses we play and a lot of fun.

We played Rose Creek today, which the day started out a bit cool but turned out to be a pretty nice day for Golf in October.  We had quite a few Cancellations today so I will send out the letter to request payments from all that cancelled.  I hope you realize that if you have paid dues for 2024, we do require that all fees be paid by the end of the year.  I know there might be some of you that are not playing next year, so you probably don’t feel obligated to pay the fees.  I hope that is not the case as we spend lots of time and energy running this Association and the rules should be followed.

Our Final Event for the 2023 Golf Season is on Monday, October 2, 2023, at Village Green Golf Course in Moorhead.  I am looking forward to seeing everyone who plays, one last time before we shut down for the winter.  I enjoy being a part of this Association and the great members we have.  It is a pleasure to be involved in such a great group.  I hope and pray that all our members have a great winter and look forward to seeing everyone next Golf Season.

On a sad note, we recently lost another one of our members, Ron Ringsven, Course Rep at Wadena, and Perham, who recently passed away after suffering a head injury from a fall.  Not too long ago we lost one of our members, Gregg Jaehning, Wahpeton, who also suffered a head injury from a fall and passed away.  This is tough to hear, so please be careful and make sure you all return for the 2024 Golf Season.
