JULY 2024

We are now entering the month of July and the Golf Season seems to be going quite well.  We have had a couple of cancellations recently, Tipsinah Mounds and Fertile.  We try to do our best when deciding to cancel an event and we learned that not all times do we make the right choice.   We could have played Tipsinah Mounds but according to ALL the weather channels we looked at there was a 100% chance of rain.  Guess what, no rain at all but because of the distance to the course we felt we made the right choice to cancel.  We can now use the TEXT system to send out any notices, so please check that before heading out if you have any doubt.

Recently, when playing an event, I noticed that the group in front of us was picking up putts and not putting them all out.  This is not allowed, and I would hope that stops.  Also, this same group was parking their Golf Carts in front of the green, so when they were through with the hole, they had to walk back towards the group waiting to hit to the Green.  Golf carts should be to the side or back of the Green so the golfers waiting to approach the Green can hit their shots as soon as they exit the Green.  That is Golf Etiquette and please do that, along with all other golf etiquette when we are playing an event.

Another issue that seems to be in question is the pace of play.  Yes, when an event is full, we are going to be slower overall, but even when it is a full event, we need to make sure we keep up with the group in front of us.  Too often we must wait for the final groups to show up to wrap up our process to get the scorecards, pay the Golf Course and head for home.  I think one of the issues for slow play is the search for a lost ball.  We are supposed to take 3 minutes to search for a lost ball and if not found, one stroke penalty and continue play.  I don’t want to turn this into a PGA Event, but I do think that Golf Etiquette should be followed whether on the Pro Tour or on the RRVSMGA.

I have had some questions about when a person cancels an event, why is there a fine if they have contacted the Course Rep.  Once the Check-In Sheet is pulled down from the Web Site, you are now responsible for calling the Course Rep if you will not be able to play, but you will be charged a Cancellation Fee of $10.  If you don’t call and become a NO SHOW, there will be a $15 No Show Fee.  This is all pointed out on the Web Site plus on the bottom of the Check-In Sheet.  We understand that unusual circumstances can happen, but your Mother-in-Law dying only happens once per golf season.  Unless you die yourself, there really isn’t anything we forgive the Cancel Fee for.

Another issue we have had is when signing up, some members have signed themselves up to play plus also listed themselves as a guest.  Please make sure you follow the instructions when signing up for an event.  Also, if you decide to withdraw from an event while sign up list is still available, make sure you finish the process.  After clicking on the withdraw from this event, make sure you go back to the event to check the list to make sure your name has been removed.

SCORECARDS:  It has been our policy to call if a scorecard is not filled out properly.  This will stop as of now and if the cards are not marked properly, they will be listed as a DNF.  You will get credit for the round, but you will not be eligible for any of the flights.  PLEASE make sure that the cards are marked properly and if you have any questions, please ask when you turn it in.  We spend enough time already for each event and don’t need to spend more time calling to get the corrections.  This is why we ask you to have one twosome keep the official card and the other twosome keep another card so you can double check the scores.  Then make sure that the tee you play from is circled or cross off the one you do not play from.  This should be done on the first TEE Box you start at.

I think this is enough information for one Newsletter.  I hope to see you all out on the golf courses, with smiles on your faces and your best game in the process.  Also, if anyone has any comments or questions, please contact us.
