August has arrived, which leaves us just 2 more full months of scheduled golf events for the Association. It’s hard to believe that we are already entering into the time of year when Reino must start working on a schedule for next year.
We held our Annual Fall Meeting on Thursday, August 1, 2024, after the event at Hawley. We had maybe 30-40 members stay for the meeting out of the 144 golfers we had that day for the event. I know everyone is busy, but this is YOUR association, and I would hope that you would like to participate in any decisions that we make. This is also the meeting where Officers are elected for the next season. As it is, all officers were re-elected for the coming season, so you are stuck with David Brunsvold as President, George Cook as Vice President, and Reino Fleck as Secretary/Treasurer.
We talked about Dues for next season and when they needed to be paid. The dues are $35 if paid prior to September 15th and if paid after the 15th, the dues are $45. We are trying to get next year’s membership set by the end of the Golf Season and do not want to do a lot of calling to see if you are going to pay for your membership for the next season. So please pay your membership as soon as possible so we know if we have any openings and if so, we can start adding members for next year from the Waiting List.
UNPAID PAYMENTS: Please check with Norm Forster and pick up your winnings from the Previous Events. If your winnings are not picked up within 30 days of winning, they are forfeited. The UNPAID PAYMENTS LIST is listed on our website under communications, so please check it out and claim any winnings as soon as you can. If you are unable to collect them within 30 days, please ask a friend to pick them up for you, as we don’t want to forfeit them but will if necessary.
We are holding the Annual Scramble again at Hawley this year. Remember that ALL GOLFERS will be riders and that we set set the foursomes according to your handicap. So please don't ask to play with anyone as that is not allowed. There is always a meal after this event, which will be added into your FEE. We will have the results by the end of the event once all cards are turned in but the payouts will go on the UNPAID PAYMENTS LIST, so you can collect at the next event you play. Those funds ARE NOT FORFEITED if you don't pick up within 30 days and will be mailed out if uncollected by the end of the year. Last year really was a mess and caused some confusion as not everyone stuck around so we are changing the process this year.
In the last newsletter, I talked about Golf Etiquette. As I said before, we are a PGA Event, but we do expect all members to abide by common Golf Rules. This is a wonderful group, but slow play will certainly turn some golfers off, so please always play Ready Golf. One of the other things that was brought up after the meeting was that there was a group of golfers who had the group behind them hit into them 3 or 4 times. We want to keep play moving along, but please make sure the group in front of you is out of the way before you hit your ball.
We had to cancel Monday’s event at Village Green because of the weather. As you all will admit we made the right choice as it was raining by 9am that morning and rained most of the day. We are the last ones that want to cancel an event, as it only adds additional work to us. We would love to be able to cancel earlier than what we did, but our direct line to the Man above is not working, so we will continue to do the best we can. If you were signed up for the event and did not get a text letting you know that it had been canceled, please let us know. We did have a few show up that morning, so they were not notified or did not check their text messages.
Now on a personal note, I would like to apologize to anyone in this Association that I have offended with my profanity. I certainly do not want to have members leave because I can’t keep my mouth under control. I love this association and would feel bad if I caused members to leave. I also have a very loud voice and love to tease. If I cross the line on teasing, please let me know and I will certainly try to keep it under control. As an Officer of this association, our members expect us to keep things under control. That means we speak to members when an issue comes up and try to resolve it. We need to be able to keep ourselves under control when addressing these issues and if we can’t, we need to let someone else take over. I failed to do this at one of our previous events and have embarrassed myself and this association. First, I must apologize to the 3 other golfers, Norm Forster, Dave Gaulrapp, and Dan Baumgarten, in my foursome for my actions. I was wrong and I am sorry for my outburst. To the group I took my anger out on, even though I was called a name, I should have handled it in a better manner.
On a lighter note, I recently spoke about the Veterans Honor Flight of ND/MN at an event. One of our golfers is a member of this group and was glad to see someone I knew. When he told someone at Hawley that I had talked to his group, his comment was, “you know he did not swear once.” So, I can speak without swearing so I will try my best but make no promises.
David
